Havana, Cuba 2017
An amazing cultural immersion, with touring every morning and the evenings filled with film festival screenings and other pursuits (eating in paladars, music, dancing). In addition to participating in the film festival, our itinerary encompasses an architectural tour, meeting artists in their studios, attending a modern dance company's rehearsal at the historic theatre next to the capitol, and lots of films from Central and South America.
DAY ONE –
Upon arrival in Cuba, after clearing immigrations and customs, we will be met by our local guides who will take us Miramar for lunch at Rio Mar Restaurant and check-into our seaside hotel.
In the late afternoon your travel hosts will officially welcome you to Cuba with an orientation and brief history of the country, a review of the itinerary. This evening we will enjoy dinner together at a private restaurant and attend the film festival as time permits.
The morning starts with a presentation by Rena Perez, an American who has lived in Cuba since the Revolution, will talk about Cuban daily life. Then, visit Old Havana with our local Cuban guides and our Talk Cinema hosts for a presentation that focuses on the city’s architectural history. Lunch together in Old Havana, dinner and movies on your own.
We will have a dance class followed by demonstration. We will then tour the Museum of Fine Arts with an art historian. A visit to the Senior Center, barrio Habana. Dinner and film festival screenings together this evening.
We will go to the National Art Schools of Cuba (ISA) for an information session and tour of the facilities. Meet master print maker Eduardo Guerra for a visit at his studio and a demo of his work. Dinner together at one of our favorite paladars.
